Being on a yacht means freedom, adventure and a lot of relaxation. Away from classic holiday resorts and tourist crowds, you will spend an unforgettable time on the boat with the greatest possible privacy and all the amenities you could wish for. Discovering a new, exciting metropolis every day, surrounded by shimmering turquoise water, sunbathing on deck and enjoying a glass of wine in the evening under a brilliantly clear starry sky – with a yacht trip, dreams come true. You don’t (yet) own your own yacht? No problem with Yachting Charter. The convenient option of renting a yacht for a certain period of time with Yachting Charter is becoming increasingly popular.
What you need to know about yachting charter, when it is worthwhile and what you can do if you do not have a sports boat licence, we as yacht shop experts reveal to you in the following article.
What is Yachting Charter?
Yachting charter is a variant of boat rental. You do not have to buy a yacht for this: The owner of a yacht lets you use his sailing yacht or motor yacht for a defined period of time. A charter fee is charged for this. These and all other regulations are recorded and concluded in a charter contract. As a rule, the yachting charter is carried out by a yacht charter company. The price depends on various factors. These include the size, year of construction, equipment, location, length of the charter period and the time of booking or time of use. In the high season, you have to expect higher costs for a yacht charter than in the low season. Berth costs and fuel are also added. Of course, a sailing yacht consumes less fuel than a motor yacht. You also have different options for yachting charters, such as crewed or uncrewed yacht charters.
What are the yachting charter options?
Bareboat charter
Bareboat charter means chartering a yacht without a crew. The basic requirement for this is your own sports boat licence, a sea and sailing experience. You should be able to master a sailing technique, navigate and manoeuvre in harbours. Yachting charter as bareboat charter brings the advantage that you are on your own responsibility. You can sail at your own pace, choose your own route and enjoy time with your own crew of family and friends. If you have the basic requirements, there is probably no better way to travel by yacht without your own boat.
Crewed charter
You don’t have a sailing licence, nor do you have any experience in sailing, but you really want to spend your holidays on a yacht without buying your own sailing yacht? Or do you not feel like dealing with manoeuvring and other tasks during your recreation, just enjoy the pure luxury!
In that case, the crewed yacht charter is perfect for you. You charter a complete crew of skipper and sailor with the yacht. They take over the entire organisation on board, steer and navigate the yacht on the route and take care of the catering. Superyacht charter can be so relaxed!
Cabin charter
With a cabin charter, you do not charter the entire yacht, but a cabin. In this case, an experienced crew also takes over the steering. This yachting charter option is ideal if you are open-minded and want to get to know other people.
Yachting Charter with Skipper
As an alternative to the crewed charter, this type of yachting charter allows you to go on board with your own crew, but book a skipper as well. The skipper steers the yacht, but you have the option of supporting him or her. You decide to what extent. If you want to take your sailing licence or have just passed it, you can train effectively under professional guidance with this yachting charter.

What are the costs of a superyacht charter?
The yachting charter is usually for a period of seven days. The basic price consists of the rental of the yacht, yacht insurance and crew service. Added to this are VAT, supplies, fuel and marina fees, as well as optional services. These are covered by the APA (Advanced Provisioning Allowance) and amount to 30% of the charter fee. If you are departing from another port, delivery and return transport costs must be taken into account when yachting charter. Please feel free to contact us! Together we will plan your superyacht charter.
What is the best time for the yachting charter?
Luxury yacht charters in the Mediterranean or Croatia, as well as yacht charters in Italy, are actually not many and whenever you want to charter, one thing is for sure: you have to book in the previous year for next year so that you get the yacht you want and that meets your expectations. Many luxury clients want a gym on board, water sports toys like jet skis, various boards, slides or even dinghies. For exclusive luxury, you can also have two yachts – one for the family/friends and a so-called “shadow boat” for the employees or even the security.
Feel free to contact us for yachting charter. We will organise your dream holiday on the sea. The team of Merk & Merk is also your first contact if you want to sell a yacht. We look forward to hearing from you!
