After a year full of impressive vessels launched in 2022, we can expect to see many innovative, elegant and luxurious yacht designs again this year. The latest yacht trends are presented first and foremost at the numerous boat shows around the world. The “boot Düsseldorf” already made the beginning in January and presented the impressive yacht designs of different manufacturers, which are to debut in 2023.
As an exclusive yacht store, we at Merk & Merk have taken a closer look at the yacht trends 2023 and show you which yacht designs you can look forward to this year.
Demand for high-end yachts is on the rise
Compared to the previous year, the demand for luxury yachts has increased significantly and more and more superlative boats are showing up to set sail. The construction of ships with the latest yacht designs has grown considerably. Sometimes the famous shipyards have problems to keep up with the orders and projects, which leads to above average waiting time. The demand for yacht designs on the second-hand market is also skyrocketing at the moment. The reason could be the current economic situation. Yachts are considered an attractive investment and a sensible alternative to other investment opportunities, which currently promise little return or even lead to losses. Many who do not want to buy a yacht themselves opt for chartering or booking an adventurous expedition trip. A yacht trend that is gaining in significance this year as well.
The contemporary and classic yacht design
At the “boot Düsseldorf”, which took place from 21.01. to 29.01.23, the Princess Yachts were presented and set a new standard of yacht trends. These yachts completely redefine life on board by rethinking the architecture. The X95, as the first model of the new X-Class, features excellent standards with large customizable spaces that can be used in a variety of ways. Princess yachts offer a unique and flexible boating lifestyle. The flybridge as well as the interior space of the main deck cover almost the entire length of the yacht, creating a super flybridge that gives owners 10% more outdoor space and 40% more indoor space than a conventional motor yacht.

Expedition boats as a new yacht trend
One of the yacht trends that already experienced strong demand last year is expedition cruises to extreme shipping areas such as Antarctica and the Arctic Circle. The yacht designs used for this purpose are the so-called explorer yachts, which break through meter-thick ice layers with their massive hulls, are equipped with submersibles, helicopter landing pads/helicopters, state-of-the-art energy-saving, power storage, heating and cooling systems, and expanded storage space. As a result, expedition yachts are currently the second most popular type of vessel in the shipbuilding sector. The yacht design of the 107-meter superyacht Project Icecap from the German shipyard Lürssens is currently in the spotlight.
Day boats in new yacht designs
Day boats are also receiving a lot of attention in terms of sailing yacht trends in 2023. The demand for these yacht designs at shipyards is also increasing visibly. Many boat owners want to use their yachts for day trips instead of spending weeks on the road with the sailor. Of course, luxury day boats should not lack all imaginable amenities. For example, the Solaris Power Daycruisers offer comfortable spaces both inside and outside. Sunbathing areas, kitchen or even a bathing platform with deck shower – the day boats have many luxurious features.
Hybrid engines as a yacht trend
In 2022, a full six superyachts with hybrid engines were already built and delivered. The eco-friendly yacht trend is thus also gaining in importance in 2023 and is in demand from many boat buyers looking for more sustainable solutions. Yacht designs are also rounded out with the use of eco-friendly materials such as synthetic teak or faux leather. Likewise, manufacturers are focusing on the integration of solar panels as alternative energy sources. This makes it possible to switch to the more environmentally friendly navigation mode when the battery is charged. The equipment with modern yacht designs also promises a relaxing time on board.
Yacht Trends: The new marinas
The investment potential in new yacht designs is great. Superyachts with modern facilities, improved safety and extensive services are enjoying great interest. Naturally, boat owners also want the same level of comfort in terms of accommodation and berths. This yacht trend has prompted some of the world’s largest marinas to undertake upgrades. Current projects include the renovation of ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove in Singapore or the construction of the new Lantau Yacht Club in Hong Kong. Complementing Yacht Trends are projects such as NEOM City in Saudi Arabia, Pearl Marina in Doha and Dubai Harbour in the United Arab Emirates.
The Yacht Trends for 2023 definitely make you want to go to sea! Whether superyachts or even day boats – with us at Merk & Merk you will find a large selection of luxury yachts, but also many tips and tricks to make life on board as relaxed as possible. Let us inspire you.
