How long has Böning been around and how did the company come about? What is your core business?
The foundation stone of our company was laid with the founding of the Engineering Office Böning in 1977. In 1996, it became engineering office Böning GmbH, which was renamed in 2003 to Böning Automation Technology GmbH & Co. KG in 2003. From the very beginning, a major focus of all company activities has been the development and production of electronic devices, as well as systems for ship automation.
Originally coming from the commercial shipping industry, we have also been successfully active on super and mega yachts since 1996. In the meantime, our devices and systems, which, by the way, mainly originate from our own development and production, can be found on more than 13000 commercial ships and yachts.
What is the USP (Unique Selling Point) of Böning – how do customers benefit from Böning systems?
Our company is characterized by its many years of experience in the field of ship automation. Our devices and systems are mainly “in-house” developments and productions. This gives us the possibility to react flexibly to the market and, thus, to realize the latest trends quickly. Our systems offer intelligent solutions in outstanding design, which enable the captain or owner to clearly display and operate all functions. All systems are individually configured according to the customer’s needs. The visualization can also be individually adapted to each ship. A truly unique solution for each ship.
Can you identify any trends in your business and what are they?
The trend has been toward integrated solutions with clear, intelligent bridge design for several years now. The automation interfaces with the electronic systems on board the yacht, controls, monitors and visualizes the data on panel PCs on the bridge. Especially in times of Corona, many owners upgrade their yacht technically, as they can check on their yacht and see if all devices are working, without being on board.
